Vicky Shea

Book Designer, Art Director, Book Packager

Vicky is a book designer and owner of Ponderosa Pine Design in Reno, Nevada. She is passionate about working with authors and publishers to create designs that best complement the book by paying close attention to the publisher’s and author's creative vision.

She has worked as a Graphic Designer and Art Director for ad agencies, but when she discovered book design, she found her true passion. She loves books and, even more, designing coffee table history books, because she gets to learn about history and make beautiful books at the same time.

Over the years, she has designed all types of books, from beginning to end; covers, interiors, the whole package. She designs coffee table history books, cookbooks, guidebooks, children’s books, how-to guides, animal books, farming books, gardening books, corporate history books, and some novels. Her portfolio shows the breadth of her work.

Her clients have included many notable publishers, including Arizona Highways, becker&mayer! Books, Beckon Books, Blue Sneaker Press, Bona Fide Books, Chalice Press, Cider Mill Press, Consumer Reports, Conundrum Press, Countryman Press, Entrepreneur Press, Favorite Recipe Press, Girl Friday Productions, Globe Pequot Press, Grand Canyon Assoc., Greenwich Publishing, Historic Hospitality Books, Klutz, Mount Rushmore Society, Plum Street Publisher, Rodale, Rowman & Littlefield, Sourcebooks, Southwestern Publishing House, Sterling Publishing, Storey Publishing, and West Margin Press.

She works with an extensive network of freelance photographers, illustrators, libraries, museums, and private collectors to create book designs and help publicize her clients’ works. Her ideas are supported by photo research online and at libraries, museums, and private collections, with the appropriate usage rights. She is extremely knowledgeable about 4-color process printing in the US and Asia, due to being on press internationally and domestically.
